Health Disparities & Social Justice

Health disparities are systemic, potentially avoidable health differences that adversely affect socially disadvantaged groups.  Whether they occur by gender, race or ethnicity, education or income, disability, geography or sexual orientation, the fact that health disparities exist reflects social injustice in our society.   As health care providers, we see the short and long-term impact of these disparities in patients we treat every day.  Emory is committed to contributing to a more just society by addressing health disparities through awareness, advocacy, research, education and care delivery.

As health care providers, we take responsibility to educate ourselves and understand the unique needs of our patients. We are constantly learning and work in conjunction with the Emory School of Medicine, Rollins School of Public Health and Emory Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing to improve the cultural competency of health providers.
